Why don't my Meta Ads Manager results match GA4 for my B2B campaigns?

Two outdoor clocks mounted side by side on a metal pole, showing different times against a blue sky.

They count different things. Meta credits leads to ads people clicked or just saw, including Instant Form leads that never reach your site, and it follows people across devices. GA4 sees only visits to your site, knows they came from Meta only when your UTMs or a referrer get through, and shares credit with other channels. Two changes make them easier to compare: in March 2026 Meta began rolling out link-click-only click-through attribution, and since October 2025 GA4 can import Meta cost and clicks. For B2B, judge Meta on CRM pipeline.

What changed

The gap itself comes from how each tool works (second table).

BeforeNow
What Meta counts as a click for click-through attributionAny click: link clicks, likes, shares, savesLink clicks only, for website and in-store conversions, so your reporting can "align better with third-party tools like Google Analytics," Meta says. Other clicks moved to engage-through attribution (1-day window). Details: the click-through attribution change
Meta data inside GA4No built-in connector; you uploaded cost data yourselfSince October 7, 2025, GA4 can import Meta cost, clicks and impressions (not conversions), matched to your traffic by utm_source and utm_medium
View windows in Meta's Ads Insights API (used by dashboards and connectors)7-day view and 28-day view availableNot returned since January 12, 2026. 1-day click, 7-day click, 28-day click, 1-day engaged view and 1-day view remain

Why the numbers still won't match

Who it affects

  • Instant Form campaigns. Meta's Results count leads GA4 can never see. Compare them with your CRM instead (or see Instant Forms vs a website form for B2B).
  • Website lead campaigns with view-through on. Meta credits leads from people who saw the ad, didn't click, and came later. Meta says third-party tools "may struggle to attribute conversions to impressions."
  • Ads without your own UTMs. GA4 puts a visit in Paid Social only when the source is a social site and the medium matches ^(.*cp.*|ppc|retargeting|paid.*)$. Meta says it "may" add a source, a medium of "paid" and IDs itself. That's not a promise, so set your own.
  • Long B2B journeys. Someone clicks your ad, then books a demo from a Google search two weeks later. Meta's longest click-through window for website conversions is 7 days, so Meta doesn't count it; GA4 records the demo and may credit the search. On another device, GA4 may count a new user. Meta notes that cookie-based tools "may not be able to measure cross-device conversions well."
  • CRM stages sent to Meta. Qualified leads you send to Meta through the Conversions API can show in Meta's reports. GA4 never gets them.

Who can ignore the March 2026 click change: Instant Form advertisers. Meta described it for website and in-store conversions only.

What to do now

  1. Tag every ad. In the ad's Tracking section, add URL parameters, for example utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_id={{campaign.id}}&utm_content={{ad.name}}. GA4 values are case sensitive, so spell them the same on every ad. Full setup: UTM parameters on Meta ads and Instant Forms.
  2. Compare landing page views, not link clicks, with sessions. Filter GA4 to your Meta source and medium. A link click can end before your page loads.
  3. Compare leads on the same terms. Meta's troubleshooting article says to use the same attribution window, time zone and conversion date in both tools (in Ads Reporting, report by time of conversion, as GA4 does).
  4. Leave Instant Form leads out. Check them against the leads in your CRM.
  5. Check the tags if the gap is large. Meta says to compare raw pixel fires in Events Manager with your other tool. More in Meta can mean duplicate fires, sometimes from redirects (its Meta Ads Data Advisor Chrome extension finds them); fewer can mean a tag manager setup problem. In GA4, check that the lead key event fires once per lead.
  6. Connect Meta to GA4. In Admin, under Data collection and modification, click Data import, then Create import source, choose Campaign data and select Meta (Editor role or higher). Enter the exact utm_source and utm_medium your ads use; changing them later means deleting the connector. Data can take up to 24 hours to appear.
  7. Settle it in the CRM. For B2B, count qualified leads and pipeline by campaign in HubSpot or Salesforce. To test whether the ads caused the leads at all, Meta calls incrementality tests such as Conversion Lift "the gold standard" (see incremental attribution).
