Is there an AI tool that audits my Google Ads account?

By The Tofu team ·

Yes, several. Google's own are built into your account: the Recommendations page with its optimization score, and Ads Advisor, a Gemini assistant inside Google Ads. Rule-based tools such as Optmyzr and Adalysis check your account against set rules every day and alert you. Claude or ChatGPT can audit your exports or read live data through Google's read-only MCP server, and a free skill such as Claude Ads gives the audit a fixed checklist. None of them knows which leads became pipeline unless you give it that data, so start any B2B audit with conversion tracking.

As of October 2026.

What does Google's own audit show?

Google gives you suggestions and diagnostics inside the account. They tell you what Google would change, not whether your leads turned into revenue.

ToolWhat it doesLimits
Recommendations page and optimization scoreSuggests changes to bidding, keywords and ads, each with an estimated score uplift. The score runs from 0 to 100%Google says the Recommendations page "doesn't predict whether your ads will do well"
Ads AdvisorA Gemini assistant in Google Ads, announced November 12, 2025, that helps diagnose sudden performance drops and ad disapprovals and suggests fixes. Google's April 21, 2026 post adds proactive troubleshooting, 24/7 account security monitoring and instant certifications, launching "in the coming months""Available to all English accounts globally." Google says it "will ask for approval before taking action in your account"
Ask AdvisorGoogle's newer agent, announced May 20, 2026, that spans Google Ads, Google Analytics, Merchant Center and Google Marketing Platform. It "can surface helpful insights using data from both Google Ads and Google Analytics""Currently available in beta for English language accounts," with "new features rolling out in the coming months"

A manual audit also uses three built-in reports: the Status column under Goals > Summary for conversion actions, Search terms under Insights and reports in the Campaigns menu, and Change history in the Campaigns menu.

Is optimization score a good audit score?

Not on its own. Google calls it "an estimate of how well your Google Ads account is set to perform," worked out from your account's statistics, settings and status plus the recommendations available to you.

Applying a recommendation or dismissing it both change the score, and Google notes that "a dismissed recommendation can reappear" later. The score shows only for active Search, Display, Video Action, App, Performance Max, Demand Gen and Shopping campaigns, and Google says "Optimization score is not used by your Quality Score." Read the recommendations as a list to review, not a to-do list.

While you are there, check what Google applies for you. Open the Recommendations page from the Campaigns menu, click Auto-apply settings, then the History tab. It shows when each auto-applied recommendation was turned on, how many times it was applied in the past week and when it last ran. Google says to look in Change history to see which user opted in.

What do rule-based audit tools like Optmyzr and Adalysis check?

They run the same fixed checks across your accounts on a schedule (for example account structure, wasted spend on keywords and search terms, missing ad extensions, and sudden swings in spend or conversions) and flag what fails. They are best when you manage several accounts and want an alert the day something breaks.

Their limit is the rules. A check can tell you an ad group has one ad or a keyword wastes spend, but it doesn't know your sales cycle, and its thresholds are only as good as the ones you set.

Can Claude or ChatGPT audit my Google Ads account?

Yes, if you give it the data. There are three ways to do it, and you can combine them.

  1. Upload exports. Revvim's April 2026 guide has Claude review six CSV exports together: search terms (90 days), campaign settings, change history (6 months), conversion actions, audience segments and placements. Cross-checking them is where an AI assistant helps most, for example matching a drop in results to a change made a few days before.
  2. Connect live data. Google's Google Ads MCP server works with Claude and ChatGPT as a custom connector, and Google says it is "strictly read-only," so it can't change bids, pause campaigns or create assets. You host it yourself, locally or on Google Cloud Run; Google also runs a hosted-endpoint pilot for allowlisted participants. The setup steps are on our page about connecting Claude or ChatGPT to your ad accounts.
  3. Add an audit skill. A skill is a set of instructions Claude follows; in Claude Code you can call one directly with a slash command. Claude Ads is a free, open-source (MIT) skill for Claude Code that audits Google and eleven other ad platforms. You install it with /plugin marketplace add agricidaniel/claude-ads and /plugin install claude-ads@ai-marketing-hub-claude-ads, run /ads setup, give it an export, screenshots or a pasted summary, then run /ads audit google. Every check ends as pass, fail, unknown or not applicable, and it "does not change your accounts on its own." Its GitHub page showed 10.4k stars on October 24, 2026.

Know the limits before you trust the output:

  • Claude Ads calls itself a "development candidate," and its account health scores are switched off, so it reports findings, not a score. Only Claude Code is verified; installs for Codex, Gemini and other tools are marked experimental.
  • Revvim notes that Google hides some search terms, Performance Max shows limited query data, and auto-applied recommendations don't appear clearly in exports, so check those in the Google Ads interface.
  • An assistant working from partial data can give a confident, wrong explanation. Check each finding against the account before you act, and remove client names and account IDs from files you upload.

What should a B2B Google Ads audit check first?

Conversion tracking, then search terms, then what changed without you. Whatever tool you use, these three decide whether the rest of the audit means anything.

  1. Conversion actions. Under Goals > Summary, each action shows a status: Active (working), Needs attention (still recording, but has issues), Misconfigured (stopped recording) or Awaiting conversions (none in the last 7 days). Then check which actions your bidding counts. If a newsletter signup counts the same as a demo request, Smart Bidding can end up chasing the cheaper one.
  2. Search terms. Open Search terms under Insights and reports. Look for jobs, students, free tools and competitors' support questions. Google omits terms without enough query activity, so the report never shows every search.
  3. Change history and auto-apply. Change history covers the past 2 years and names the user, or "Google Ads API" or a tool name for changes made through the API. Compare it with your Auto-apply settings. If your Search campaigns used campaign-level broad match or automatically created assets, also check what the AI Max upgrade changed.

Which option should I pick?

It depends on how many accounts you run and what you want back.

If you…Use
Want a first pass inside Google AdsGoogle's Recommendations page and the three reports above, read with a skeptical eye
Manage many accounts and want daily alertsA rule-based tool such as Optmyzr or Adalysis
Want a written audit that ties findings togetherClaude or ChatGPT with your exports, an audit skill such as Claude Ads, or the read-only MCP server
Need lead quality judgedAny of the above, plus your CRM data, because no tool sees pipeline on its own

Where Tofu fits

Tofu Ads Agent (our product) is not a general account auditor and doesn't score your account. For Google Search, it runs a conversion tracking audit and builds negative keywords from your search terms, alongside keyword research, themed ad groups and responsive search ads. It doesn't audit LinkedIn or Meta tracking. Its weekly bid, budget and creative recommendations stay proposals until you approve them, and campaigns it builds are staged in your account switched off. It costs a flat $2,500 per month.
