How do I set up the Meta Conversions API for my B2B website without a developer?
TofuAnswer by the Tofu team · checked
Use the free Meta-enabled Conversions API if your Meta Pixel already fires your form-fill event: Meta calls it a one-click setup in Events Manager that copies the pixel's events to a server connection and deduplicates them. Use your website platform's partner integration if it has one, such as WordPress; use server-side Google Tag Manager if you already run GA4 and GTM; use the Conversions API Gateway if you want the server in your own AWS or Google Cloud account. Keep the pixel either way: Meta recommends running both.
As of October 2026.
Quick answer by situation
| If you… | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Already track form fills with the Meta Pixel | Keep the pixel and add the Conversions API | Server events catch what the browser misses |
| Want the fastest free setup, and the pixel sends the events you need | Meta-enabled Conversions API | One click, no cost, no upkeep, automatic deduplication |
| Run your site on WordPress or another listed platform | A partner integration | No code; managed through the platform |
| Already use Google Tag Manager and GA4 | Server-side Google Tag Manager | Reuses your GA4 web tag; hosted on Google Cloud or Stape |
| Want the server in your own cloud account | Conversions API Gateway | Codeless, but you pay the cloud bill |
| Care more about which leads become pipeline | Conversions API for CRM | Sends lead stages, not just form fills |
If you already track form fills with the pixel
You still want the Conversions API. Meta says server events are less affected than the pixel by browser loading errors, connectivity issues and ad blockers, and it recommends a "redundant" setup: the same events from the pixel and your server. In its April 15, 2026 announcement, Meta said advertisers with a Conversions API setup for web events saw "an average 17.8% lower cost per result" than those without one. That's Meta's average, not a promise for your account.
Meta deduplicates a browser and server copy of the same event when the event name matches and both carry the same event_id, or the same external_id or fbp value. The Meta-enabled setup and the Conversions API Gateway handle this; with other routes, check the deduplication tab once events flow.
If you want the fastest free setup
Turn on the Meta-enabled Conversions API. Meta announced it on April 15, 2026 and describes it as a web-only setup that "automatically creates a server-side connection that delivers web data to Meta alongside your Meta Pixel." Its comparison table lists it as free and one click, needing only the pixel. Its developer docs say to turn it on in Events Manager, with "no code, configuration, or setup fees." When you create a pixel, it's one of the setup choices: Connect data > Web, then Do it yourself > Conversions API and Meta Pixel > Set up with Meta-enabled, web-only Conversions API.
The limit: it shares what the pixel shares. Meta's comparison says it sends the same events and parameters as the pixel, so if the pixel doesn't fire a Lead event when someone submits your demo form, fix that first. Meta says nothing changes if you already use a partner integration or a custom setup. To raise match quality on lead events afterwards, see how to improve Event Match Quality on Meta lead events.
If your site runs on WordPress or another listed platform
Use the partner integration. In Events Manager, go to the Data sources tab, click Settings, scroll to Choose a partner, then pick your platform and follow its steps. Meta's partner list for website events names WordPress, Shopify and Joomla among website platforms, plus tag managers and customer data platforms such as Segment and Tealium. If yours isn't listed, Meta says to set the API up manually or ask your provider.
On WordPress, Meta's own plugin is Meta pixel for WordPress (400,000+ active installs on WordPress.org). It installs the pixel, "includes support for the Conversions API," and connects through the Facebook Business Extension flow, where you share an access token with your site. Some 2026 reviews on WordPress.org report errors, one with the connection stuck on "Connection Pending."
If you already use Google Tag Manager and GA4
Use Meta's server-side Google Tag Manager integration. It forwards data from your GA4 web tag to a GTM server container and on to Meta. You need full control of the business portfolio, admin access to the GTM account and GA4.
- In Events Manager, select Partner Integrations and choose Google Tag Manager.
- Click Connect account, then Get started, and pick your Google account, dataset, GTM account and web container.
- Choose hosting: Google for standard hosting, which needs a Google Cloud billing account, or Stape, which Meta says has a freemium plan.
- Pick or create a server container, add your GA4 Measurement ID, click Publish, then check it in Test events.
Stape's pricing page lists free server-side GTM hosting for up to 10,000 requests and a Pro plan at $20 a month ($17 a month billed yearly) for up to 500,000 requests.
If you want the server in your own cloud account
Use the Conversions API Gateway. Meta calls it a "codeless, self-serve setup option": you pick it in Events Manager and it builds a server in your AWS or Google Cloud account that receives pixel events and forwards them to Meta, with deduplication built in. Meta says it fits businesses already using the pixel, not yet sending web events through the Conversions API, and spending more than $300 a month on campaigns optimized for web events.
What it costs you:
- Money. Meta says cloud fees are the only cost and start at $30 a month, varying by region and traffic.
- Time. Meta's help center says setup takes under 30 minutes; its AWS setup guide says the server alone takes about 30 to 40 minutes to create.
- Access. An AWS or Google Cloud account (Meta says a new one takes a few minutes), plus your DNS provider if you add the custom domain Meta recommends.
If you care more about which leads become pipeline
Connect your CRM. A form fill only tells Meta that someone filled in a form; Conversions API for CRM connects your lead data to Meta, so you can send later stages too. See how to send HubSpot or Salesforce lead stages to Meta.
If you need events or customer details the pixel doesn't send, or app or physical store events, that's a direct integration. Meta says it requires a developer and 2 to 4 weeks for a new one, and Events Manager can write personalized setup instructions for you to send them.
What to avoid
- Two server setups sending the same events. Meta only removes duplicates that share an event name and a deduplication key, so pick one route per pixel.
- Paying for hosting you don't need. If the pixel already sends the right events, the Meta-enabled option is free.
- Assuming it works. In Events Manager, open your event and click View details. On the Event coverage tab, Meta says to aim for Conversions API events equal to 75% of pixel events; the Event deduplication tab shows what share of events carry each deduplication key.
