What is Meta's lead capture AI agent in Instant Forms, and should B2B advertisers turn it on?

Not yet, for most B2B advertisers. Meta's lead capture AI agent, an Instant Form setting Jon Loomer reported in July 2026, lets Meta show some people an AI chat instead of your form. Meta decides who gets the chat. The agent asks your form's questions and answers basic ones from your form and website, and you can't read the conversation. Test it in one ad set if your offer needs explaining, and judge it on qualified leads in your CRM. Only some accounts have it, and Meta hasn't announced it.

As of October 2026.

What does the lead capture AI agent do?

Loomer found it while building lead ads in July 2026. If your account has it, you'll see an "Enable lead capture AI agent" section below your forms when you create an ad, or in the Form type section when you create an Instant Form. He quoted Meta's description:

"The lead capture AI agent guides users through a conversational flow to collect instant form information. Meta decides whether to engage in an AI chat or show someone your instant form based on which experience is more likely to convert that lead. During the conversation, the agent can answer basic questions about your business using available details from your existing instant form and website. If the agent doesn't have the answer, it will let the customer know and continue with the lead form questions. The interaction ends when the user submits the form or exits the chat."

Loomer adds what he saw:

  • It isn't a destination you choose, like Messenger. Meta picks the chat or the form for each person before it opens.
  • The chat runs inside the app, not in a message thread. It doesn't show up in your comments or Messenger, it isn't stored, and you can't see it.
  • A lead is complete once the agent has collected the information your form asks for.

Loomer linked a Meta help article for that description. On October 31, 2026, his link redirects to Meta's general article About lead ads with instant form, which doesn't mention the agent, and we found no other Meta help page or announcement about it. In a later post, Loomer says the feature lets "some advertisers" turn on the agent. So treat it as a test that can change or disappear.

When each option is the right pick

A standard Instant Form (agent off)

The default for most B2B lead ads. You control every word people see, and your legal team can review it, which Meta recommends for the questions on your form. Set the form type to Higher intent, which adds a review screen and which Meta suggests when each lead needs follow-up (it runs only in mobile Facebook and Instagram feeds). Add work email validation or phone verification if junk leads are the problem. For more, see Instant Forms vs your website form for B2B.

Instant Form with the lead capture AI agent on

Worth a test when your offer takes explaining before someone will share details. Loomer suggests it could suit professional services or anything more complex. It fits best when prospects ask the same few questions and your website answers them accurately: pricing, integrations, security and who you serve.

Skip it, for now, if:

  • What you tell prospects must be approved first (regulated industries, security claims, contract terms). The agent's answers are unscripted, and you can't review them.
  • Your site has outdated pages. Meta says the agent uses "available details" from your website. Loomer asks "Where on the website? Anywhere?" and notes that you can't control or test what it draws on.
  • You need a record of what was said to each lead.

Messenger or Instagram automated chat

Pick this when you want a chat but also control and a record. You write the questions. Meta says that after the automated chat you can continue the conversation in Messenger, or download the lead to your CRM or a CSV and follow up by phone or email. Meta recommends Automated chat for businesses that want to qualify a large number of leads. It can't answer questions you didn't write a reply for.

Can I see the conversations the agent has with my leads?

No. Loomer says the chat isn't stored and you can't see it. You get the lead's answers to your form questions, like any other lead. Neither Loomer nor Meta says whether leads from the chat are marked differently from form leads, so you may not be able to tell them apart. That's the main reason to test the agent in its own ad set.

How do I test it, or keep it off?

  1. Check every new lead ad. Look for the "Enable lead capture AI agent" section below your forms and in the form's Form type section. Meta hasn't said whether it's on by default, so don't assume.
  2. Split the test. Run two ad sets with the same audience, budget, creative and form questions, and turn the agent on in one only.
  3. Tag the leads. Meta's lead download already lists each lead's ad set name. To carry the split into your CRM, give each ad set its own copy of the form with a different tracking parameter (in the form's Settings, for example utm_content set to agent-on or agent-off). Meta sets tracking parameters per form, not per ad set, and passes them to an integrated CRM.
  4. Judge on sales results. After a few weeks, compare the share of leads that reach MQL or a meeting, and the cost per qualified lead, not cost per lead.
  5. Ask sales. If prospects quote answers you never gave, or don't remember signing up, turn the agent off.
