Should I turn off Advantage+ audience for B2B Meta ads?
Usually not as a first move. For most B2B lead campaigns, keep Advantage+ audience on and set the hard limits Meta allows without switching it off: locations, languages, a minimum age up to 25, and excluded custom audiences such as current customers. Add job-related interests and customer lists as suggestions. Turn it off (Further limit the reach of your ads, then uncheck Use as a suggestion) when only a defined group may see your ads, such as a target account list, or when your CRM shows its leads don't qualify.
As of October 2026.
Advantage+ audience vs. audience controls vs. a limited audience
Meta's ad set gives you three levels of control. The first two keep Advantage+ on; the third turns it off for the audience.
| Advantage+ audience with suggestions | Advantage+ audience with audience controls | Limited audience (Advantage+ off) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it does | Meta's AI finds the audience. Age, gender, detailed targeting and custom audiences you add are hints | Same, plus hard limits on locations, minimum age, languages and excluded custom audiences | Age, gender, detailed targeting and included custom audiences become hard limits too |
| Can ads reach people outside your inputs? | Yes, outside your suggestions, but never outside your controls | Not outside your controls | Not outside your selections |
| Where you set it | Ad set, Audience, Suggest an audience | Ad set, Audience, Controls (Show more controls); or for the whole account, Advertising settings, Audience controls | Ad set, Audience, Further limit the reach of your ads (or Further limit your audience) |
| Advantage+ label | On | On. A minimum age up to 25, custom audience exclusions and account controls don't turn it off | Off for the Audience section |
| Cost | Meta reports 9.7% lower cost per result for Traffic, Engagement and Leads objectives | Meta gives no separate figure | Meta says Advantage+ audience typically gets better results than original audience options |
| Main limit | A job interest or customer list you suggest doesn't keep anyone out | Controls can't require a job title or an account list, and you can't exclude lookalike audiences | Smaller reach, and Meta says you won't get all its AI optimizations |
Meta's cost figures are its own and measure cost per result, not lead quality. For B2B, the number that matters is how many leads become qualified in your CRM.
When Advantage+ audience with suggestions is the right pick
- Your buyers aren't defined by one job title, for example a product many small businesses buy.
- You optimize for qualified leads with CRM data, so Meta learns which leads turn into pipeline. See how to send CRM lead stages to Meta.
- You can run an A/B test against your own targeting. Meta recommends A/B testing Advantage+ audience for almost all campaign types.
Skip it for retargeting. Meta says Advantage+ audience isn't recommended for retargeting campaigns.
When to add audience controls and keep Advantage+ on
- You sell only in some countries. Set Locations. Meta won't go beyond them unless you select Reach more people likely to respond to your ads.
- You want customers or open deals left out. Exclude those custom audiences in the ad set.
- Very young audiences send junk leads. Raise the minimum age. Up to 25 keeps Advantage+ on. Through the API, Advantage+ audience accepts a minimum age of 18 to 25 and fixes the maximum at 65.
- Some rules apply to every campaign. In Advertising settings, Audience controls can limit locations, set a minimum age, exclude some audiences for brand protection, and exclude your own employees by employer. These apply to all campaigns in the ad account, including existing ones, and changes can take up to 48 hours. Meta says this feature is still rolling out.
When to turn Advantage+ audience off
- Account-based marketing. Your ads should reach only an uploaded list of target accounts or contacts. Include that custom audience as a control.
- Narrow roles. Your offer only makes sense for a niche audience you define with detailed targeting, and you need that to be a hard limit.
- A fair test failed. After an A/B test, your CRM shows leads from Advantage+ audience qualify less often than leads from your own targeting.
Expect less reach. Meta says Advantage+ audience usually does better because its AI isn't limited to people who match your selections.
How do I turn off Advantage+ audience?
- In Ads Manager, open the ad set and find the Audience section.
- Select Further limit the reach of your ads (or Further limit your audience).
- Choose what to limit: Age, Gender, Custom audiences (including lookalike audiences) or Detailed targeting.
- Uncheck Use as a suggestion where it appears. The section then usually shows Advantage+ off.
If you duplicate a campaign that didn't use Advantage+ audience, choosing Recommended setup applies Advantage+ audience automatically. Choosing Original setup shows a Use Advantage+ audience option under Audience. Meta's current help pages describe these steps and don't mention a "switch to original audience options" link that older guides describe.
Watch two related settings. Meta turns on Advantage+ lookalike automatically for new, duplicated and draft ad sets that use lookalike audiences, which lets delivery go beyond the lookalike percentage you picked. Meta describes it, and Advantage+ detailed targeting, as using that input "as a suggestion," so check whether Use as a suggestion is ticked next to lookalikes and detailed targeting.
Through the Marketing API, set advantage_audience inside targeting_automation to 0 to opt out. Since v23.0, new ad sets default to 1 unless you set it, and a narrowed targeting setup without an explicit value returns an error.
Can I still run a Meta Leads campaign without Advantage+?
Yes. Leads campaigns start in Meta's Advantage+ campaign setup with Advantage+ on, but Meta says manual campaign features are all still available. Advantage+ turns off section by section:
| Section | Keeps Advantage+ on | Turns it off |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Campaign budget, with one or more ad sets; optional spending limits | Several ad sets without campaign budget |
| Audience | Suggestions; minimum age up to 25; custom audience exclusions | Further limit settings with Use as a suggestion unchecked |
| Placements | Advantage+ placements | Excluding placements in an ad set, or opting out of Mobile or Desktop |
Account controls never turn Advantage+ off. Meta is also rolling out a change that removes manual placement choice at the ad set level for Leads, Sales, Engagement and App promotion campaigns, so in some accounts you'll set placement exclusions by objective in account controls instead. See why you can't choose placements in Meta Leads campaigns.
Meta made Advantage+ leads campaigns available globally on October 30, 2025. It said they averaged 14% lower cost per lead and 10% lower cost per qualified lead. Those are Meta's figures, not an independent test.
What else helps keep consumer leads out?
- Optimize for qualified leads. Meta's qualified leads goal uses your CRM stages to find people more likely to convert, not just fill in a form.
- Require a work email. Meta said in October 2025 that Instant Forms can require a valid corporate email, on Instagram or through the Marketing API. SMS phone verification is also available.
- Bid by value, not by job. Value rules raise or lower bids by age, gender, location, operating system, device, placement or conversion location. They can't target job titles or companies.
- Special ad categories. Employment, housing, financial products and services, and social issue, election or political ads don't have access to Advantage+ audience.
