Should B2B advertisers let Meta turn their static image ads into videos?

Test it in one ad first; don't switch it on everywhere. Meta made video from static images generally available in Advantage+ creative on October 6, 2026. Use it if your images are simple visuals and you have no video for Reels and Stories. Keep it off if your images show product screens, charts, prices or customer logos that motion could distort. Judge it by qualified leads in your CRM, not cost per lead. From November 20, 2026, Meta's updated ad terms make you solely responsible for the risks of its AI features and the creative they make.

As of November 2026.

What is Meta turning into video?

Two things, and Meta documents them differently.

Video generationAdd animation
What it doesMakes video "from existing static assets," per Meta's October 6, 2026 announcementTurns "a static image in your ad" into "a short animated video that adds subtle motion," per Meta's developer docs
Status"Now generally available" since October 6, 2026An Advantage+ creative enhancement, in the Marketing API since June 28, 2026

We found no Meta help article on video generation. Meta's announcement names "Advantage+ creative video generation in Ads Manager" only as where beta advertisers turn catalog product images into video, and doesn't say where the static-image feature sits. During the beta, Jon Loomer (January 28, 2026) saw a section called "Advantage+ Creative Video Generation (Beta)" in ad setup. It made three video concepts of five clips each, 15 to 20 seconds long, and Meta filled gaps "with stock imagery." You could edit overlay text and pick music. The released version may differ.

Meta's API docs don't say what image_animation is called in Ads Manager. The closest name in Meta's enhancement list is Add animation (AI).

If you have only static images and no video for Reels or Stories

Try video generation, in a new ad next to the static one. Meta says "More than 60% of the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram is with video," so a video version gives your offer a way into that time without a shoot. Keep the static ad running so its results stay comparable. Watch every generated video before it goes live, including any stock footage Meta adds. A B2B buyer who sees a stock office scene instead of your product learns nothing about you.

If your images show product screens, dashboards, charts, prices or customer logos

Keep Add animation off and skip video generation for those ads. These images carry details that must stay exact: a number on a dashboard, a price, a customer logo you have permission to use. Meta's updated Self-Serve Ad Terms say "AI features may make mistakes and may not always produce accurate, complete, or suitable results." From November 20, 2026, they add, "You are solely responsible for and assume any and all risks associated with such AI features" and "any resulting Ad Creative." If you want motion, have your team make the video from approved images. Our page on Meta's new terms covers how the date moved and what else they say.

If you judge Meta by qualified leads

Run an A/B test: the static ad in one version, the generated video in the other. Meta's A/B test compares versions with changes "such as ad images, ad text," makes sure "nobody sees both," and recommends "using the same budget for both versions." Then compare cost per qualified lead in your CRM, not cost per lead in Ads Manager. To have Meta optimize toward qualified leads too, see sending CRM lead stages to Meta.

If you add the video as one more asset in the same ad instead, Meta's per-asset breakdown may help (see which image or video brought in the leads). Meta doesn't say whether it splits out generated video.

If you want no AI-made video at all

Turn off Add animation (AI) in each ad and don't use video generation when you build one. Meta says, "Some enhancements may be turned on by default, but you can turn them off at any time." Its list also has other AI enhancements for video, such as Add music (AI), Add video effects (AI) and Video touch-ups (AI). For the steps (the Enhancements step, Advanced preview, bulk edit and the Test new creative features setting), see how to turn off Meta's AI edits.

Sources disagree on defaults. Common Thread Collective wrote on November 2, 2026 that Meta's generative video features "are enabled by default in new campaigns," without citing Meta. Its FAQ says Image Animation is on by default in new Advantage+ Shopping and Sales campaigns. Meta's help page says only that some enhancements may be on by default. Check each new ad before you publish.

If you build ads through the Marketing API or a tool

Set the enroll_status of image_animation in degrees_of_freedom_spec.creative_features_spec to OPT_OUT or OPT_IN on each creative. Meta added it on June 28, 2026. If any feature you opt into is generated with AI, Meta says "you must create the ad with a PAUSED status," preview it, and then set it live. The Advantage+ creative docs we checked list no separate field for the October video generation feature.

If you advertise in financial services or health

You may not have these features yet. Meta says "certain industry verticals such as Financial Services and Pharma/Health," "along with certain countries, may not have immediate access to all generative AI features." Meta doesn't give a date for when that changes.

What to avoid

  • Swapping the static image for the video in your best ad. You lose the clean comparison. Add the video as a new ad or run an A/B test.
  • Judging on cost per lead alone. A cheaper lead isn't a better one. Check what the leads became in your CRM.
  • Publishing without watching the whole video. Look for changed text, warped logos and stock footage.
  • Expecting no label. Meta says, "We will automatically apply an AI info label when you use features such as Background Generation," "Image Generation, or Add Animation." In most cases people find it in the ad's three-dot menu under About this ad, so decide whether you're fine with buyers seeing it. The label article doesn't name video generation.
