Can I change the questions on a live Meta Instant Form, or do I have to make a new one?

You have to make a new one. Meta's help center says you can't edit an Instant Form once it's published; only drafts can be edited. To change the questions, duplicate the form, edit the copy, publish it, then switch your ads to it. Some third-party guides report a direct Edit option at the ad level in some accounts, but Meta hasn't documented it. The copy is a new form with its own ID, so check any CRM sync set up per form. Old leads stay with the old form, downloadable for 90 days after each submission.
As of November 2026.
Why is there no Edit option on my published form?
Because Meta only offers Edit on forms saved as drafts. Its help article says you can't edit an existing lead ad's Instant Form after you publish it, but you can edit it while it's still a draft. If you hover over a form and see no Edit option, it has been published. Meta's rule applies to the published form as a whole. What you can change is which form your ads use.
LeadsBridge (December 2025) says Meta is rolling out a way to edit forms more directly at the ad level in Ads Manager for some accounts, and Vizup (April 2026) says some advertisers can now do this. Neither links a Meta announcement, and Meta's own help article still says published forms can't be edited. If you see an Edit option at the ad level, Vizup suggests trying it on a low-risk campaign first.
How do I duplicate a form and fix the questions?
Meta's help article gives two routes.
In Ads Manager:
- Open the ad that uses the form and go to the Instant form section.
- Hover over the form and choose the duplicate option.
- Give the copy a new name, so your team can tell the versions apart.
- Change the questions, then publish the new form.
In Meta Business Suite:
- Go to All tools, then Instant forms.
- Click Create form and choose to duplicate an existing form.
- Search for the form by name, rename the copy and make your changes.
Name versions clearly, for example "Demo request v2 (company size added)", so sales and ops can tell which leads came from which version.
How do I put the new form on a live ad?
Edit the ad, go to its Instant form section, select the new form and publish the change. Do this for every ad that used the old form. Ads still pointing at the old form keep collecting answers to the old questions.
Vizup suggests another route for tests: duplicate the ad set, put the new form in the copy, and keep targeting and budget the same. That gives each form its own clean results, at the cost of starting a new ad set.
Will switching forms reset learning or send the ad back to review?
Plan for both. Meta says editing certain details of a campaign, ad set or ad may restart the learning phase or cause the ad to be reviewed again. Its list of significant edits includes any change to targeting, ad creative or optimization event, adding a new ad to the ad set, changing the bid strategy and pausing the ad set for 7 days or longer. Meta doesn't say whether swapping the form counts, so assume it might.
For B2B accounts with low lead volume, batch your form changes. One swap with all your fixes beats three swaps a week apart.
Do I lose my leads or results?
No, but they split in two places:
- Leads stay with the form they came through. Meta's developer docs say leads exist on both the form and the ad, and a form used by many ads can hold far more leads than any one ad. Download the old form's leads as usual.
- Download in time. Meta says leads can be downloaded for 90 days after a form is submitted. That clock runs whether or not you replace the form, so export the old form's leads if your CRM didn't already get them.
- Ad results stay with the ad. Ads Manager reports results per ad, so if you swap the form inside the same ad, its history stays with that ad. If you build a new ad or ad set instead, it starts from zero.
Will my CRM or Zapier sync break?
It can. The copy is a new form with its own form ID, and many syncs are set up per form.
| Setup | What happens with the new form | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Zapier | Zapier says you pick the specific Page and form in the Zap's trigger | Edit the trigger to point at the new form, or build a Zap for it |
| HubSpot native sync | HubSpot says it creates all active lead forms on Pages enabled for syncing, but new forms may take several hours to appear | Wait, then check the new form appears and its custom questions map to the right properties |
| Your own code or another connector | Leads come with a form_id, so anything filtering on the old ID will miss them | Add the new form ID |
New questions need somewhere to land. HubSpot, for example, creates custom questions as single-line text properties. If you added a "Company size" question, check where it lands so your lead scoring and routing can use it.
Before you switch live ads, send a test lead through the new form. Our guide to sending Meta leads to HubSpot or Salesforce covers testing the sync.
What should I do with the old form?
Archive it once no live ad uses it. Meta's developer docs say you can only archive a lead form, since deleting isn't supported. An archived form doesn't appear in the Forms Library by default, and you can't use it in an ad. You can reactivate it later if you need it.
Can I change the questions through the API instead?
Not as far as Meta documents. Its developer guide covers creating forms, reading their questions and leads, and archiving or reactivating them. It doesn't describe changing the questions of an existing form, so the API route is the same as the manual one: create a new form, then point your ads at it.
What else should a B2B form get while I'm making a new one?
Since you're publishing a new form anyway, fix everything at once:
- Higher intent. Meta's developer docs describe this setting as adding a step where people review and confirm their answers before they submit. It is set when the form is created, so a copy is your chance to turn it on.
- Qualifying questions. Add the one or two questions sales uses to route leads, such as company size or role. Every question is one more thing to fill in, so keep only the ones someone acts on.
